Founded in 1948, it is the 2nd largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, 4th largest manufacturer of buses in the world and 12th largest manufacturer of trucks globally. Operating nine plants, Ashok Leyland also makes spare parts and engines for industrial and marine applications It is a market leader in the bus segment. In the trucks segment Ashok Leyland has a presence in the entire truck range, from 7.5 to 49 tons.

Ashok Leyland has also initiated SKILL DEVELOPMENT centers in India and abroad . There are 6 such centers in India . It is in Alwar , Chennai ,Nagpur , Bhubaneshwar , Nashik and pantanagar .Abroad it is in Nepal ,Bangladesh , Srilanka, Dubai and Nigeria .One such centre is in Lucknow in collaboration with GCRG —- where the students will be trained on the State of Art centre of Ashok Leyland . The Objective of SKILL DEVELOPMENT centers is Continual improvement in Skills for higher productivity, retention and motivation.The students of GCRG will be given basic and advance training on trucks and buses and also customer handling at dealer point . This will anable students for quick placement and company will get readymade manpower . A win-win situation for both the partners .
